The Crown Range road between Queenstown and Wanaka has been closed overnight after a major slip on Friday.
Video shows the moment rock and debris came hurling down onto the road.
No vehicles are allowed through from the State Highway junction on the Queenstown side to the Cardrona township on the Wanaka side.
The road between Wanaka and the Cardrona township has not been affected.
Contractors are now working to make the site safe again.
An alternative route from Wanaka to Queenstown is State Highway 6 via Cromwell.
