An autopsy is to be carried on the victim of the fatal house fire in Dunedin as police continue to investigate it.
The man died in the fire in a unit in a block in Nutsford St in the early hours of Saturday morning.
On Sunday police said they were continuing to investigate the fire.
Police believe they know who the man is but a formal identification has not yet taken place.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out on Monday.
Neighbours who spoke to the Otago Daily Times said a friend of the occupant of the Housing New Zealand unit, who was believed to have been drinking with him before the fire, left shortly after emergency services arrived.
