A masked gunman is still on the run in Canterbury nearly a week after a terrifying kidnapping in Hanmer Springs.
A gunman ambushed a man and his family at their home in the small north Canterbury town in what police believe is a case of mistaken identity.
The offender pistol-whipped the man, leaving his face bloodied, before making him tie up members of his family. He then forced the victim to drive a silver SUV parked at the home with a pistol pointed at his neck.
The ordeal ended when the man jumped out of the moving car and fled gunfire.
