Hawke's Bay Police are appealing for the public's help following an aggravated burglary in Hastings on Thursday night.

At about 8:15pm an elderly woman and her daughter were confronted in their Outram Rd, Akina home by two young men. They were disguised and carrying weapons.

They demanded money, struggled with the women and left on foot, leaving both women upset but uninjured.

Police want the public's help identifying the pair responsible.

"The local neighbourhood can also assist us by checking their properties in this area for any discarded clothing, and also a handbag taken during this frightening event," said Detective Sargent Darren Pritchard.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on (06) 831 0700.
