The chief of the Defence Force is in Canada to talk illegal fishing, human trafficking and cybercrime with his counterparts.
Lieutenant General Tim Keating says the Indo-Asia Pacific Chiefs of Defence Conference in Victoria will be an opportunity to share views about issues in the Asia Pacific region.
The three-day conference starts on Monday.
It's an annual meeting that bring together senior military leaders from regional nations to discuss security challenges, improve relationships and foster security co-operation.
Topics likely to come up include maritime security, illegal fishing, human trafficking, illicit commodities trafficking, cybercrime, increased usage of submarines, increased vessel congestion, resource scarcity, and environmental impacts of climate change.
Other regional concerns will also be dealt with in the formal sessions and multi-lateral meetings, he says.
