The search for a pair of boaties missing on the West Coast of the South Island has resumed.

The boat, confirmed to be the Wendy J, based in Greymouth was carrying three people. The Wendy J ran into trouble on Thursday and the alarm was raised on Saturday.

A search began and one man was found near Teer Creek, about 8km southwest of where the vessel went down. The other two passengers and boat were not found.

All that has been seen from above is debris and a life raft.

On Sunday morning, police announced the search had been suspended due to poor weather.  It has now been resumed due to weather improvements.

Searching has been most recently focussing in the Smoothwater Bay area.
