A police dive squad will resume searching for two missing people in a lake in Christchurch on Wednesday morning, after the car they were travelling in was found submerged.
Witnesses say a woman's car revved into the Westlake Reserve shortly before 6pm. A man dived into the deep lake to try and retrieve the woman - but failed to surface.
Emergency services received the word that the car was in a lake on Westlake Drive in Halswell around 5:45 pm on Tuesday.
A fire service spokesperson said the fire service has been stood down, with a scene guard put in place overnight.
