The police dive squad is being brought into the search for two missing fishermen off the West Coast.

The squad is expected to arrive in Haast on Monday night to help with the search being conducted near Jackson Bay.

A helicopter was carrying out the search during the day, police say.

The Greymouth-based fishing vessel Wendy J got into trouble near Smoothwater Bay, near Jackson Bay, on Thursday night.

The alarm was raised mid-morning on Saturday after a light aircraft spotted wreckage on the shore.

A third fisherman was found on the beach on Saturday afternoon, about 8km south-west of where the vessel went down.

He was taken to Grey Base Hospital and later discharged.
