A young Christchurch woman accused of killing a baby she was looking after is set to face trial.

Shayal Sami, then aged 18, was babysitting Aaliyah Chand when the infant allegedly received fatal head injuries in early 2015.

Aaliyah was taken to hospital by Sami and a neighbour, but died while in the intensive care unit just days after her first birthday.

Sami, who has pleaded not guilty, will face a jury trial at the High Court in Christchurch, starting Monday.

The trial is expected to last two to three weeks.
