Five people pulled from rolled van in rural south Auckland

Five people including a six-year-old boy have been pulled from the wreckage of a rolled van in rural south Auckland on Tuesday morning.

Five people were flown to hospital after taxi van rolled and ended up in a paddock just after 8am on Waiuku Road, near Mauku.

Inspector Shawn Rutene says four people received serious injuries, and one received moderate injuries.

Those injured include a six-year-old boy, two 18-year-old women, a 21-year-old man and a 69-year-old man.

Police say "quick thinking" members of the public were the first on the scene in the rural area to help those injured.

Cordons are in place, and the Serious Crash Unit and Commercial Vehicle Safety Team are investigating.
