A drunk and unlicensed 15-year-old driver has crashed a people mover with four people in it, including a parent.

The driver was so drunk he had difficulty standing, police say.

The accident happened on Little Valley Rd in Alexandra after 7pm on Saturday. No other vehicles were involved.

Senior Sergeant Ian Kerrisk said it was lucky no one was injured as the people mover rolled and there was debris across the road.

All four people in the car, including the parent of the driver, were drunk.

The driver was uncooperative and was arrested for refusing to accompany police for a breath test. A later test returned a reading in excess of the adult legal limit.

He is being referred to Youth Aid.

"The attitude of the young driver and the choice of the parent who allowed him to drive were disappointing," Sen Sgt Kerrisk said.
