One of Dunedin's most well-known pubs has again closed its doors.

Investors had planned to sell the business on following the relaunch but a spokesman says they've been forced to again call time at the bar until a suitable buyer can be found.

The Captain Cook Hotel reopened in May last year following a major redevelopment.

The former student watering hole known simply as "The Cook" was one of the few remaining pubs in North Dunedin.

The Captain Cook shut its doors four years ago, blaming changing tastes and a crackdown on the student drinking culture.

It followed the closure of two other student bars - The Gardies and The Bowler which were both were bought and shut down by the university.
