Five men arrested in connection to Rotorua double death

Police have arrested five men in connection with the deaths of Raymond and James Fleet, an uncle and nephew who were found dead in August. 

The group are facing charges including murder, manslaughter, accessory after the fact of murder, manufacture of methamphetamine, and possession of substances, materials and equipment with intent.

Raymond Fleet, 51, and James Fleet, 25, were reported missing from their respective homes near Mamaku on August 10, and their bodies were found in Mamaku Forest on August 17. 

"This type of incident is extremely rare in Rotorua and I know it has shocked our community," said Rotorua area commander Inspector Anaru Pewhairangi.

Four men, aged 34, 29, 26 and 21 years old, are due to appear in Rotorua District Court on Wednesday, and a fifth man, aged 26, will appear in Whakatāne District Court.

"We hope the arrests begin to bring some closure for their whānau," said Inspector Pewhairangi.
