Two people have been left fighting for their lives after a head-on crash near Cambridge overnight.
A police spokeswoman says they were called to the scene on State Highway 1 near Tirau Rd just after 11:30pm on Friday night.
She says it was a head-on crash between a car and ute. The car heading north crossed the centre line and smashed into the ute heading southbound.
Both people were the sole occupants of their vehicles, and were initially trapped. They were both taken to hospital in a critical condition, with one believed to have leg injuries.
The serious crash unit is investigating.
