A young woman has been struck by a crane mounted onto the top of a truck in a hit-and-run in Brisbane.

Horrifying footage, obtained by 9 News, shows the vehicle approaching 27-year-old Iuliana Stevenson, originally from Christchurch, as she crosses a road.

After running the woman over, the truck continues down the road. Another car also passes her without stopping, as she lies unconscious on the ground. Passers-by then rush to Ms Stevenson's side.

The woman remains in Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital in a critical condition, with significant head injuries.

The driver has since handed himself in to police yesterday. He has not been charged, but a police investigation continues.
