Pink fairy tackles alleged Napier robber to the ground

A man raising awareness for breast cancer has managed two good deeds in one day, tackling an alleged robber to the ground in Napier.

Dressed in a pink crop top, pink tutu, pink fishnets and fairy nets, the man was quick to take action when a man wearing a balaclava fled a dairy on Hastings St.

The man had allegedly threatened a staff member inside the dairy before being chased out and across the road, where he was nabbed by the fairy and an acquaintance.

An off-duty officer, who was in the area, helped hold him down until more police arrived.

Police have praised the fairy's actions as those of a "hero".

"While we encourage people to think about the risks involved before stepping in during an incident such as this, there is no denying that the efforts of these two good Samaritans have assisted us in preventing this person causing further harm in our community," Senior Sergeant Kevin Stewart said.

The alleged offender was charged with aggravated robberies and suffered minor injuries in the scuffle.

Anyone with information on the crime is urged to contact Napier police on (06) 831 0700.
