Traffic is at a crawl after a car has crashed into rockfall near the Karangahake Gorge on the Coromandel Peninsula.
The driver is believed to be uninjured after smashing into the rocks, which fell onto State Highway 2 at the gorge, a police spokesperson told Newshub.
The eastbound lane of the state highway was blocked between School Rd and Waitewheta Rd but has since re-opened. No diversions have been put in place.
The police spokesperson said traffic is building in the area and drivers are asked to be patient and take care.
