Truck filmed driving on wrong side of highway in Otago

Another case of dangerous driving has been filmed over the long weekend, a trailer truck on a State Highway near Dunedin was caught driving on the other side of the road while cars can be seen oncoming just moments before.

The video provided to Newshub shows the truck crossing the centre line a number of times while heading north on State Highway 1 just outside Dunedin early on Saturday morning.

Moments later that truck can be seen ending up on the other side of the road, luckily with no other cars around.

The truck belongs to Big Chill Distribution, a freight company that delivers around the country, which Newshub has contacted for comment.

Police say they've been made aware of the incident and are investigating.

They also reiterate the urge for "motorists to report any driving behaviour of this nature."

It comes after the Labour weekend death road toll climbed to five, up from three during the same period in 2016.

Two people were killed in a crash in Auckland, one woman died on State Highway 47 on Saturday morning, another person was killed near Burnham outside Christchurch on Friday night and a cyclist died following a crash in Rangiora on Monday night.
