The two-year-old boy was also found with him, and is safe and well. He is being supported by police and will be re-united with loved ones.

Police were called to the scene in Thames at approximately 4pm and a woman was flown to Waikato Hospital with stab wounds. She is now in a serious, but stable condition.

Barlow then fled the scene with a two-year-old boy in a 2001 white Toyota Corolla.

Police would like to thank the members of the public who provided information that helped them find Barlow.
