Students involved in a naked prank gone wrong are facing disciplinary action from the principals of the schools involved.

Kyle Kirsten, a student from Hamilton Boys High School was left with a large gash in his leg after being hit by one of the motorcycle riders on the Hamilton Boys High field on Wednesday.

The riders, a group of six 17-year-old girls, were riding through the school grounds on dirt bikes when they hit Mr Kirsten.

The injury is expected to heal and the family would like the incident to blow over, but the schools involved are unimpressed with student's behaviour.

Diocesan School Principal Mary Curran told NZME the school is conducting on-going interviews with the students involved and could not currently comment on the situation.

"This is the first step in an official process," she said.

"The principal will then give her report to the boards, and they will decide on the action that will be taken."

Police have also become involved in the incident, telling Fairfax that charges would be considered.

"While we understand it was a prank and a bit of spirited excitement by the girls, if there has been an injury, like there was in this case, there must be accountability," said Waikato road police Senior Sergeant Pete van de Wetering.

Police said they would be speaking to the girls involved on Friday.
