Police have issued a warning to drone operators after attending two incidents of drones interfering with flights near Auckland Airport on Sunday night.

Police received a report around 9pm  that a drone, flying at approximately 1000 feet (300m), interfered with the approach of an incoming flight.

A second report of a drone being flown in controlled airspace, at around 700 feet (213m), was received at 9:40pm.

They said anyone using a drone in New Zealand should ensure they are familiar with the Civil Aviation rules.

According to the Auckland Council website, in the area around Auckland Airport, drones cannot be flown above the height of nearby trees and structures.
