A Kiwi treaty negotiator has lucked into a prime position at the Obama Foundation Summit in Chicago.

Gina Rangi, known for her work as a lawyer and treaty settlement negotiator for Ngāti Tūwharetoa, is attending the summit, which focuses on bringing together global leaders to share ideas.

All attendees were hand-picked from a pool of applicants, and Ms Rangi has been joined at the summit by former Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick.

But Ms Rangi's neighbour at the summit dinner has garnered most interest.

Ms Rangi tweeted on Wednesday that she would be dining next to Prince Harry, who spoke at the summit earlier in the day.

"So we have assigned seating at dinner tonight ... #obamasummit," she wrote, alongside a photo of her place card next to Prince Harry's.

The summit will continue for another day on Thursday. Speakers will include Barack and Michelle Obama, and poet Elizabeth Alexander.
