No sign has been found of a swimmer missing after being caught in the powerful current of a West Coast river.

The 57-year-old man was reported missing about 6:15pm on Saturday while swimming at the junction of the Buller and Ohikanui Rivers, near Westport.

Police, LandSAR, jet boats and kayakers searched the waterways until 11pm on Saturday and again on Sunday when two boats from Surf Life Saving NZ were also used.

The Police National Dive squad will arrive in Westport on Sunday evening to continue the search.
