A car-surfing stunt has left one man in hospital fighting for his life.
The man was injured just before 2am on Thursday after riding on the bonnet of a car along the Karikari Peninsula in the Far North, a police spokeswoman said.
The female driver lost control on an S-bend crashing through a fence.
The driver was uninjured but the car surfer was flown to Auckland City Hospital with critical head injuries, where he remains in a critical condition.
The female driver, who is believed to be holidaying in Northland, failed a breath test.
