One of Christchurch's anchor projects will be opened to the public on Tuesday.
The East Frame is a huge park in the centre of the central business district that will eventually be bordered by inner city homes.
Rauora Park is a 660-metre long park, spanning five blocks.
CEO Albert Brantley Otakaro says it's "quite unusual" to have a space like this.
"It is very much about creating that sense of community, making it a desirable place to live."
The park, which features a half basketball court, cycleways, 300 trees and 14 thousand plants, makes up the green space in what will eventually be an urban residential precinct called the East Frame.
It's a far cry from an area that - pre-quake - was home to high-rise offices and shops, the most notable of which - the 14-storey Newstalk ZB building - was imploded five years ago.
The Crown began acquiring the land, after the city blueprint was released in 2012. Work began on the park last year - and it's opening a month ahead of schedule.
Nine-hundred townhouses and apartments will be built on the park borders over the next 10 years - the first are already underway, ready for marketing in the New Year.
Mr Otakaro says there's been quite a bit of interest.
"It's a good sign when people ask you that."
It's another addition to the Garden City and another sign that Christchurch's central city is well on its way to a full recovery.
