A man claiming he had a bomb in his bag has robbed a Mt Maunganui dairy, making off with a pie.
The owner of the Park Minimart and Takeaways on Manganui Rd told the Bay of Plenty Times a shirtless man walked in to the shop at around 6:25pm on Tuesday.
She said her son served him, and the alleged thief told him he was homeless and demanded a pie. When he refused the offender said he had a bomb in his bag.
The 20-year-old victim told the Bay of Plenty Times he gave him the pie and the whole encounter was "scary".
"He was only in the store for about 10 seconds," he said.
Police said they are investigating the robbery.
