A Givealittle page set up for the widow of an Auckland taxi driver killed in a crash on Saturday morning has raised more than $50,000 in less than two days.

Abdul Raheem Fahad Syed, 29, was killed just after 5am on Saturday morning after a black Mercedes crashed into his car.

The driver and passenger of the Mercedes fled on foot but were later apprehended by police.

The driver is facing charges for excess breath alcohol causing death, driving with excess breath alcohol causing injury and failure to stop and ascertain injury.

The Givealittle page was set up by Kashif Quadri who said the aim of the page was to help Mr Syed's widow manage the funeral costs and look after her five month-old-son.

"With plenty of other things to worry about we want to assist them by alleviating some of the financial pressures during this time," the page description says.

Mr Syed's wife Nishat Abedi told Newshub the experience feels like a dream and she's having a hard time adjusting to life without her husband.

"When I realise he's not around me, I feel like, no, I've lost everything, nothing is left for me now, because he was such a supportive husband for me," she said.

"My husband's only wish was for me to settle down here because he wanted the best future for my baby, and the best education as well."

The page has now raised over $51,000 after being created on Sunday.

Mr Quadri says the money will be used to pay for the transportation of Mr Syed's body along with his wife and son to India, as well as supporting the cost of living for his family.
