Morrinsville locals allowed to shower again after water shortage

Morrinsville's water woes are not over yet, but primary and pre-school children in the Waikato town will be allowed back at class on Tuesday.

Children have been off school on Monday and water tankers have been supplying the town, after a water mains leak at the weekend.

The Matamata-Piako District Council says its mains pipe is now fixed, but it's still flushing pipes to prevent water discolouration and to release air locks in the system.

Morrinsville's 6000 residents are now able to shower, but are still being urged to conserve water.

Water supplies were described as "critical" on Saturday afternoon, when a pipe burst at the local reservoir.

Residents were asked to only use water for "essential" purposes, flushing and showering and using washing machines only when necessary.
