New Zealand has been voted the greatest country on Earth.

The winners of the Telegraph Travel Awards for 2017 have been announced, and we've come in at number one for the fifth year in a row.

The top three travel destinations as voted by Telegraph readers have remained the same since 2013: New Zealand taking out the top spot, with the Maldives in second place and South Africa in third.

New Zealand has won the Travel Awards every year since 2012, and came second to the United States in 2011. Some of the country's most appealing qualities, according to the Telegraph, include our temperate climate, top-quality wine, preservation of Māori culture - and a lack of snakes.

The USA has slipped down the rankings in a big way since 2011. By 2015 it was in 10th place, but this year fell another eight places to 18th, possibly thanks in part to the instability of the Trump administration.

Japan and Myanmar took out fourth and fifth place respectively, while Australia, a former member of the top three, fell to sixth place in 2016 and has remained there ever since.

The most improved award goes to Lebanon, which rose a whopping 34 places to 44th overall. In contrast, the Seychelles dropped 17 places to finish up in 24th place.
