Spark customers may soon be able to tap into their Wi-Fi away from home.

The network service has just announced portable wireless broadband for some of its customers.

It means people can unplug their home modem and take it to their bach or holiday destination.

Customer and marketing general manage Clive Ormerod told Newshub Spark is trying to "push the boundaries a little bit harder".

"The trial will give 100 customers the opportunity to take their broadband to a nominated holiday address over the summer."

Mr Ormerod says currently wireless has its limitations.

The wireless broadband product is actually locked to your home. So you have a geolocation which means you can use it in one address.

"A lot of the feedback we've got is customers would like to take it to another location."

While the intention is to bring the product into the market, it is "just a trial at this moment".

Mr Ormerod reminds other customers not to try and take their wireless broadband with them to another location over the summer unless they're a selected participant, "because it won't work".

"But for the customers that are part of the trial, we're pretty excited to hear their feedback.
