Shocking footage of an unconscious couple on "zombie" drugs has emerged on Facebook.

The Daily Mail reported that the video was recorded in Taupo on December 3, just after 3pm, when a man spotted the stagnant vehicle holding up a further 30 behind it.

Inside were two women passed out in a car as a result of taking synthetic drugs.

"They were gone," he told The Daily Mail. "They looked like f**king zombies. It was pretty f**king shocking, it was pretty scary."

He said the car was still in drive, and one of the women attempted revving up the engine despite being passed out.

He told The Daily Mail he put the car in neutral and pushed it away from the roundabout at the intersection of Ruapehu and Tamamutu Streets.

"It was outside a school and it's definitely a wake-up call," he said. "It could've gone totally wrong."

The impact of synthetics on these earned them a powerful label  "zombie drugs".

The video continues to circulate around social media.
