The house belonging to a fire officer has caught on fire on Friday in Waipara, about 60 kilometres from Christchurch. The house is located next to Waipara School.
Photographs from the scene show the smouldering house, with large scorch marks over the roof.
Several fire engines attended the incident. Witnesses say there was extensive damage to the house.
