A woman charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a man at a Christchurch address has been remanded in custody.

Christchurch Court News reported that Virginia Maria Beerens, 58, entered no plea when appearing before Judge Alistair Garland in the Christchurch District Court on Tuesday.

Beerens, a dental assistant, also faces a charge of using a fire to intentionally damage a bed and personal items that belonged to the man.

The man was in a stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at Christchurch Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, a Canterbury District Health Board spokeswoman confirmed.

Beerens next appearance is February 9 at the High Court.
