Police divers have found a body in the search for a woman missing in the water in Hawke's Bay.
Search and Rescue staff discovered the body at Haumoana Beach, Eastern District at 6.35am.
The search resumed on Wednesday morning for the woman, who went in water to rescue a child in difficulty.
While the child was rescued, she was not.
Police cannot yet confirm the body found is the same woman.
Police, Coastguard, lifeguards and a helicopter searched the sea around Haumoana for several hours on Tuesday night.
Reports say two children were in the water on Tuesday afternoon together, when one began to have difficulty swimming.
Police were alerted at 4:50pm and the children were taken to hospital in a serious condition.
Senior Sergeant Martin James says the search wound down when night fell.
