Christchurch police are investigating after a person was seriously assaulted in Linwood on Saturday night.
The assault took place at approximately 11:10pm on Sewell St.
The victim is currently in Christchurch Hospital with serious head injuries.
Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Ford says police examined the scene of the crime on Sunday. He says investigators are gathering evidence, talking to witnesses and liaising with the victim's family.
Police want to hear from anyone who was in the Sewell St area at around 11pm on Saturday who may have noticed anything unusual.
