State Highway 2 has been closed at Tahawai, north of Katikati, following a serious crash.
The two-car collision occurred at 8:44am at the intersection of SH2 and Kauri Point Rd.
One person was critically injured in the accident, while another two people received moderate injuries.
They have all been taken to hospital.
Police expect the road to be closed in both directions for several hours, and motorists are asked to avoid the area.
The serious crash unit has been advised and is on its way to the scene.
