Christchurch woman Renee Duckmanton's death: Murder-accused's trial begins

The trial for the man accused of killing a 22-year-old Christchurch sex worker is under way.

Renee Duckmanton was last seen on Peterborough and Manchester streets in the city's red light district on May 14 2016. 

Her burnt body was found near the Rakaia River the following day. 

Sainey Marong, 33, was charged with her murder, which he denies. 

A jury of nine woman and three men was empanelled on Monday.

Around 100 witnesses will be called throughout the trial which will include Duckmanton's partner and forensic experts. 

CCTV footage will also be played for the jury. 

The trial is set to last three weeks in the Christchurch High Court.
