A father and his 11-year-old son have died after their car collided with a petrol tanker near Whangarei.
The crash, which took place in Marsden Point, occurred just after 12pm on Friday.
Senior Sergeant Ian Row said that at the time of the crash, weather conditions were atrocious.
Emergency services are currently at the scene of the incident, on the corner of Marsden Point Rd and Rama Rd.
The serious crash unit is also in attendance.
Police say more information about the crash will be made available as it comes to light.
