No one hurt in Warbirds over Wanaka plane accident

A small plane has crashed at the Warbirds over Wanaka airshow.

Emergency services raced to the airfield just after 10am this morning.

The Yak 3 plane was taxiing on the runway when its wing clipped a cherry picker.

The pilot has not been injured.

"The aircraft, owned by a Wanaka pilot, had touched down on the grass runway but soon afterwards a wing clipped a stationary cherry picker near the grass runway, in use for the airshow," Warbirds over Wanaka said in a statement.

"The aircraft suffered damage to one wing. The pilot was not injured."

The Warbirds over Wanaka show was delayed by 35 minutes. Around 25,000 people are at the annual show.
