A West Auckland family are being praised for their politeness after writing notes to neighbours warning about their burnout gender reveal party.

The burnout took place on Saturday to celebrate an expected baby girl, and footage shows pink balloons flying out of the boot amidst the smoke.

In a letter sent to neighbours before the event, Geneviene and Annette Murray wrote:

"On the afternoon of Saturday 3rd of March there is going to [be] a burn out that takes place on our property as part of a gender reveal party.

"We apologise in advance for any disturbance this may cause as it most likely will be loud but we would like you to know it will only involve the one car for no more than a few minutes and will not be on the road so traffic through the street should not be disturbed."

The letter attracted attention when someone posted it in the Facebook group 'You know you're in West Auckland when….'

Aunty-to-be Geneviene Murray commented on the post, saying: "It was all in good fun and we decided it only fair to warn neighbours of the noise. We also timed it so it was after our neighbours kids naps not to wake them up."

She said she doesn't care if people think the party is bogan.

"It was an awesome day and lots to celebrate."
