Tributes are flowing for the two people found dead at an Auckland halfway house in Grey Lynn on Tuesday afternoon.

The bodies of former Shortland Street actress Tania Ellwood, 39, and Timothy Kerr Hamilton, 36, were discovered at Dryden Lodge by a maintenance worker.

Katrina Ellwood paid tribute to her sister, who played the character Mandy Timmins on Shortland Street in 2006, in a Facebook post on Thursday.

"RIP by beautiful sis," she wrote alongside a photo of Ms Ellwood.

"I love you with all my heart and I'm going to miss you every single day.

"I pray you are at peace."

Elaine Louise Weatherley, whose daughter was friends with Ms Ellwood, called it "such a tragedy".

"Tania was such a lovely young vibrant lady.

"She was so very kind, compassionate... a beautiful person."

Two of Mr Hamilton's nephews have also expressed their shock at the news.

"Too early," Julian Rika wrote on Facebook.

"Rest in Peace Uncle Tim.

"Gonna miss you and your crack up jokes."

Bowen Rika added his uncle had "the biggest heart".

"So gentle and was the funniest with whanau and friends.

"I love you so much rest in peace."

Ms Ellwood and Mr Hamilton were known to each other, and police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.

Police want to hear from anyone who had contact with the pair after 11am on Wednesday February 28.

Anyone with information can call Avondale Police on (09) 820 5700 or anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
