Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was found dead at a Wikitoria Road house in Whanganui just before 7pm on Sunday night.
The man in his 50s was found dead and a second man in his 50s received serious injuries and was transported to Whanganui Hospital. He is now in a stable condition.
Family and neighbours stood outside the property in their dressing gowns as police and ambulance staff attended the scene on Sunday night.
The property was cordoned off and armed police guarded the scene overnight.
Police are carrying out a scene examination and asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
