Remembering the WWI New Zealand invasion of Samoa

This year is the centennial of the end of World War I - and to mark the event, we begin our fifth and final series of Great War Stories.

We start with New Zealand's first action in the war - the so-called invasion of what was then the German colony of Samoa.

War was declared on August 4, 1914.

Ten days later, New Zealand was ready to take on the Germans.

But there was nothing glorious about this landing or the years of New Zealand administration that followed.
