Good news for Mycoplasma bovis-affected Ashburton farmer

Dairy farmers across the country have a had a hellish past few months dealing with Mycoplasma bovis, but the Government is working on more plans, which are set to be released on Monday.

Dairy farmer Frank Peters is one of those farmers who have watched helplessly as 1000 cows and calves were trucked off his property bound for the freezing works, with the last group leaving on Friday.

Mr Peters was expecting his herd of 500 winter milkers would to be the next to go. But he says MPI told him they can stay and he can keep milking them until the end of the winter milking season, which is around November.

What happens beyond November for Mr Peters and his remaining 500 cows will be clearer after Monday, when the Government announces its plans of dealing with the disease.
