Investigation reopened into autistic Rotorua man who disappeared last year

  • 03/05/2018

Police will resume the search for a Rotorua man who has been missing for 167 days.

Nigel Peterson, who has autism, disappeared on November 17, 2017.

The 33-year-old had just been picked up by his caregiver when he got out of the vehicle and ran away.

A Behavioural Science Profile has since been carried out, shedding new light on Mr Peterson's possible behaviour around the time of his disappearance.

This new information means Rotorua Police now have a better idea of where he may have gone.

Police, along with Mr Peterson's family members and LandSAR, will plan their next move over the coming week. From May 11 to 13 teams will search both new and previously covered areas.

"The goal is to provide some closure for the family, who are still hopeful that Nigel can be located and returned to them," says Constable John Fredericksen.

Anyone who believes they saw Mr Peterson on November 17 or during the following week is urged to contact Rotorua Police on 07 348 0099.

They can also send a private message to the Bay of Plenty Police Facebook page or anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
