A West Coast man has admitted shooting dead a 43-year-old woman in Greymouth last year.

George Sean Warren, 45, pleaded guilty to the murder of the woman, whose has name suppression, in the Christchurch High Court on Friday, Court News reports.

The incident took place at a Greymouth house on October 22 while the victim's children were present.

Witnesses say they heard a loud bang before a car sped off which led to a day-long man-hunt for Warren.

Police caught Warren the day after the shooting just north of Hokitika.

Two other men are facing charges of concealing evidence of the murder.

Warren had originally pleaded not guilty when he appeared in the High Court in November last year.

Since then the case has been going through pre-trial sessions.

On June 1 the Crown is expected to argue that the cases against all three men should be joined in one trial.

No family members or supporters were present to hear Warren enter his guilty plea on Friday.

He was remanded in custody for sentencing in Greymouth on June 8.
