Two-car crash sparks raging fire on Auckland's Harbour Bridge, puts stop to traffic

A two-car crash at the southern end of Auckland's Harbour Bridge has led to a raging car fire.

Police were called to the crash at about 7:20pm on Tuesday.

One of the vehicles involved had burst in to flames, and footage obtained by Newshub shows a fire engine and a police car at the ready nearby.

Miraculously, no one was injured in the crash. The crash occurred in the southbound lanes, after the Onewa off-ramp.

Once the flames were extinguished, a tow truck was called to remove both cars.

A police spokesperson told Newshub traffic was delayed while the wreckage was cleared, but is now flowing normally over the bridge.

It's been a hectic day for Auckland commuters, with breakdowns blocking roads across the city. At 6:30pm a breakdown in the Waterview Tunnel blocked the left northbound lane.

At the same time, an incident blocked the right-hand lane of Great North Rd, near Oakley Ave.

Just 10 minutes later, another breakdown in Victoria Park Tunnel caused further headaches for motorists.

These three incidents were all cleared after 7pm, but drivers were warned by New Zealand Transport Agency they should expect delays.
