One person is being taken to Christchurch Hospital with moderate injuries after their ute veered off the road and into an estuary.
The incident took place just after 2pm, near Main Rd in Mt Pleasant.
Police say the driver appeared to have suffered a medical event.
"The vehicle is still in the water and we have arranged for a crane to come get it out," a spokeswoman said.
