Massive fire in Tauranga as air conditioning company goes up in flames

Firefighters are battling a massive fire at a large commercial building in Tauranga.

The blaze, which Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) was alerted to just before midday, is still raging at the air conditioning company on Birch Ave, in the suburb of Judea.

Video from the scene shows flames emanating from the roof as huge plumes of black smoke rise into the sky.

FENZ northern communications shift manager Carren Larkin says the blaze was "well-involved" on their arrival, with a second alarm transmitted soon after to get more resources to the scene.

Larkin says the building is about 30 metres by 20 metres in size, and the back half of it is totally engulfed in flames.

However she confirmed all people were accounted for, and there are no fears for anyone's safety or for adjacent buildings at this stage.

Police are at the scene to help with traffic control.
