A satirical website has been set up lampooning the release of Labour data about Chinese home buyers.

The site, howkiwiareyou.nz, claims to feature a Kiwi-O-Meter which asks visitors to enter their names and then spits out a percentage representing their supposed "kiwiness".

It provides satirical comments such as: "You're really Kiwi - good on you, grab a dozen beers and lay down some Number 8 wire at the edge of your property if you're having an open home - only proper Kiwis know how to get past Number 8 wire."

It's branded with the Labour Party logo and colours, but specifies it's not connected to the party.

The outcome of the meter is random and gets different results when the same name is resubmitted.

"As we say the data is pretty small so it's not perfect, and the tool is a bit glitchy (like our Party), but little details like that don't really matter!" it says.

The release of real estate data by Labour was criticised over the weekend after it was discovered the numbers of Chinese home buyers in Auckland were determined by looking at whether their names appeared to be Chinese on sales lists.

It has been called racist and half-baked by a variety of commentators, although the study's creator has defended it.

Attempts to contact the site's administrator have been unsuccessful.
